provisional restoration

Description
Provisional (temporary) restoration (crown, bridge, denture), in the narrowest sense of the term operator-removable. Temporary restorations are usually fabricated (chairside or labside) using acrylic and (luted with temporary cement) are intended for protecting prepared teeth, preventing teeth drifting, healing and forming gingiva (teeth and implants), aesthetic and functional rehabilitation as well as testing a modified bite prior to placing the definitive restoration.
